Speaking on Tuesday during a visit to Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak, Sontirat said he would continue his work as normal in the Cabinet, for now.
Sontirat was ousted when a new board was elected on Saturday, which also saw Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan selected as new party leader. The leadership change was reportedly triggered by factions within the party who are eyeing Cabinet seats ahead of a reshuffle.
Sontirat said he did not want to talk much about politics, and wanted to focus on his work instead.
“Dealing with the Covid-19 crisis and its impact in our country are the urgent issues right now, and they will be discussed at today’s Cabinet meeting,” he said.
Asked about the changes to the party’s leadership and their duties, Sontirat said they had not disrupted the operations of his job.
He added that he did not know whether he would remain with Palang Pracharath in the short term or the long term.
