Calls for democracy also heard in Northeast

The fire of democracy was sparked again on Sunday (July 19) when more than 500 Ubon Ratchathani residents gathered at the city pillar shrine to protest against the military-led government.

This was the third political rally to be held over the weekend, including one held at Bangkok’s Democracy Monument by a group called Free Youth on Saturday, and other on Sunday at Chiang Mai’s Tha Phae gate.
All three protests demanded that Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha dissolve the House and rewrite the charter in favour of the people who were desperate for true democracy. They also listed the failures of the current Cabinet.
Meanwhile, in Ubon Ratchathani, the protest drew the attention of many people who showed up to not just support the protest, but to also purchase souvenirs.
Police, meanwhile, were there to secure the area.
After delivering speeches demanding an improvement in the country’s political system and for the government to stop threatening the public, protesters dispersed at 8pm peacefully.
