Appeal Court upholds one-year prison sentence against Premchai
The Court of Appeal yesterday (July 29) upheld the one-year prison sentence without parole handed to Italian-Thai Development boss Premchai Karnasuta for offering bribes to government officials.
The court also upheld the one-year jail term given to Premchai's aide Yong Dodkhruea for offering bribes to induce officials to not carry out or to delay their duties.
Premchai's lawyer submitted a bail application with a Bt500,000 guarantee to the Supreme Court for Premchai’s provisional release. The application is pending with the court.
The ruling follows a court case on June 11, 2019, in which Premchai was granted bail on a Bt200,000 guarantee and had 30 days to appeal that verdict sentencing him to a year in jail.
In that case, Premchai and three accomplices were found guilty of trespassing and poaching in Thung Yai Naresuan Wildlife Sanctuary on February 4 and 6, 2018.
