NSC okays emergency extension, says decree won't be used against political rallies

Office of the National Security Council (NSC) has approved the extension of the state of emergency for another month, as a refining of the Communicable Diseases Act is still to be completed, but the NSC confirmed it would not enforce the emergency decree on political rallies.

NSC secretary-general General Somsak Rungsita said today (August 20) that the state of emergency will be effective until the end of September.

Regarding student political rallies, he said there was no problem if the protests nationwide were held in line with the law, confirming that the office will not enforce the decree on the rallies.

Concerning the new domestic Covid-19 case discovered at Ramathibodi Hospital, he said the Public Health Ministry will explain the case.

“We will hold a meeting tomorrow to discuss measures that had been eased, such as a full school reopening, public transportation and permission to enter sports stadiums,” Somsak said.

“We will also thoroughly investigate the new Covid-19 case,” he added.
