Survey shows people worried about protests leading to hatred, violence

More than one-third of people are worried that the pro-democracy "Free People" protests would spread hatred in society, according to a NIDA Poll.

The National Institute of Development Administration said that the poll conducted from August 18 to 20 showed that around 34.76 per cent of respondents were quite concerned.
The survey gathered the opinions of 1,312 people from different age groups, careers, and locations.
The protests cited in the poll referred to those held on August 10 at Thammasat University, Rangsit campus, and near the Democracy Monument in Bangkok on August 16.
Of those surveyed, 26.37 said they were very concerned about the protests due to the risk of violence, as well as the threat of Covid-19 spreading among activists and protesters.
The poll showed 34.76 per cent were quite worried about the protests due to the danger of violence between people from different sides.
▪︎14.18 per cent were slightly concerned but believed people had the right to protest, and they believed that officials could tackle any situation.
▪︎24.16 per cent were not concerned, explaining that protests were normal in this country and these student-led protests were peaceful.
▪︎0.53 per cent of those surveyed made no comments.
When asked how Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha should deal with the protests, 45.27 per cent suggested that the PM hold direct discussions with the protesters, while 24.16 per cent demanded that the PM dissolve Parliament.
