Prayut says he doesn't know if ministers went partying in Bangkok’s Thong Lor area

The premier denied any knowledge of members of his Cabinet visiting entertainment venues in Bangkok’s Thong Lor area recently, which was found to be a hotspot of Covid-19 infections last week.

PM Prayut Chan-o-cha added that relevant agencies were looking into whether the venues in question should be closed temporarily to curb the spread of the virus.

Until Saturday, 71 cases were found linked to entertainment venues, 40 of whom were found to have visited pubs in the Thong Lor and Ekkamai areas.

On Monday, the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) reported 194 new infections, including 87 cases in and around the capital, 12 of whom had tested positive in quarantine facilities.

Of Monday’s total infections, 69 were linked to entertainment venues – 45 in Bangkok, nine in Samut Prakan, seven in Chonburi, two each in Nonthaburi and Chumphon, and one each in Samut Sakhon, Samut Songkhram, Sa Kaew and Pathum Thani.

On Sunday, Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said in a Facebook post that preventive measures on Covid-19 will be reviewed due to the new cluster in entertainment venues.

He added that people out to party easily spread the virus because they went pub hopping without practising preventive measures.
