5 new Bangkok virus clusters take total to 34

Bangkok authorities announced the discovery of five new Covid-19 clusters on Wednesday, bringing the total in the capital to 34. The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said the clusters had spawned 876 new cases on Wednesday.

The five new clusters are at Bangkapi Market, construction workers’ camps in Bang Kho Laem and Don Muang, an ice factory in Chatuchak, and a rented warehouse in Bang Sue.

The CCSA is especially concerned about outbreaks at workers’ camps in the city.

Several districts have more than 1,000 workers each in construction camps, including Bang Kapi, Bang Khen, Lat Phrao, Huay Kwang, Bang Khae and Bang Kho Laem, according to CCSA spokesman Apisamai Srirangsan.

Camps where infections are found are being sealed to isolate the workers. Workers at camps located on construction sites can continue to building tasks as normal.

For others, a “bubble” system will use shuttle buses to ferry workers to and from the sites.

Officials also urged locals living close to camps and construction sites to help monitor the situation. Any workers spotted drinking alcohol in groups should be reported to authorities, they said.
