Locals urged to be cautious as heavy rains forecast for Northeast, East and South

Isolated heavy rains are forecast for the Northeast, the East and the west coast of the South, the Thailand Meteorological Department said on Friday.

A monsoon trough lies across the upper North and Laos forming a low pressure cell over upper Vietnam, while a strong southwest monsoon prevails across the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand, the department said.

People in these areas should beware of accumulated rains and heavy downpour, the department cautioned.

Waves in the Andaman Sea are expected to rise 2-3 metres high and above three metres during thundershowers. All ships should proceed with caution and small boats should keep ashore until June 12, the department said.

The weather forecast for the next 24 hours:

North: Thundershowers in 60 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 22-25 degrees Celsius, highs of 31-33°C.

Northeast: Thundershowers in 70 per cent of the areas with isolated heavy rains; temperature lows of 22-26°C, highs of 29-33°C.

Central: Thundershowers in 40 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 22-26°C, highs of 31-36°C.

East: Thundershowers in 60 per cent of the areas with isolated heavy rains; temperature lows of 23-27°C, highs of 27-32°C; waves two metres high and over two metres during thundershowers.

South (east coast): Thundershowers in 60 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 22-26°C, highs of 31-33°C; waves a metre high and 1-2 metres during thundershowers.

South (west coast): Thundershowers in 70 per cent of the areas with isolated heavy rains; temperature lows of 21-25°C, highs of 29-33°C; waves 2-3 metres high and over three metres during thundershowers.

Bangkok and surrounding areas: Thundershowers in 30 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 25-26°C, highs of 32-34°C.
