Isolated heavy rains forecast for most parts of Thailand

The Thailand Meteorological Department said on Saturday that a monsoon trough lies across the upper North and upper Laos as a tropical depression develops over the upper South China Sea.

Meanwhile, a strong southwest monsoon prevails across the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.

Isolated heavy showers to very heavy rains are forecast for the North, Northeast, the East and the west coast of the South.

People in these areas should beware of accumulated rains and heavy rains, the department said.

Waves in the Andaman Sea rise 2-3 metres high and more than three metres high during thundershowers. All ships should proceed with caution and small boats should keep ashore, the department said. The tropical depression over the upper South China Sea is expected to further develop into a tropical storm and move to the Tokin Bay and make landfall over upper Vietnam on June 12-13. This will cause the monsoon trough to remain over the upper North and upper Laos with isolated heavy rains in the upper North and the upper Northeast, the department said.
