A tropical depression will batter 38 provinces from Thursday to Saturday, the Thai Meteorological Department warned on Wednesday.

An active low-pressure cell over the northern South China Sea has intensified into a tropical depression with maximum sustained wind speeds of about 55 km/hr, the department said.

More rain is forecast across the country, with heavy to very heavy showers in some areas of the North, the Northeast, the Central region, the East and the South (west coast), the department said.

It warned people to beware of severe conditions that may cause overflows and flash floods.
