Agri firm eyes alternative farming systems

Agricultural company Aden Co is considering alternative systems to contract farming like mutual profit.
Aden is one of 16 companies accused of seizing land in Dagon Seikkan Township in Yangon. The government has formed an investigation commission for these cases.
Aden chairman U Chit Khaing said it took over these lands with government permission. “We operated contract farming on these farmlands in accordance with permission of the government. We developed the lands for cultivation in our own expenses,” he said. Khaing said the company will discuss with the farmers what system would work for them.
He said they will cooperate with the investigation as well as help the farmers by providing paddy seeds.
