The directives came following reports of live cattle trade through different points on Myanmar-China border.
Myanmar uses draught cattle to export beef and needs to breed cattle for the farming sector.
“Thousands of living cattle are illegally exported to China every day,” Win Kyaing, the general secretary of Myanmar Fisheries Association, said during a meeting between the livestock and fisheries minister and businessmen of the sector last week.
Officials of Myanmar Livestock Breeding Association expressed concern over live cattle trade during a meeting with Speaker of the lower house of parliament, parliament committee, commissions, businessmen and NGO officials in June.
The live cattle, goats and sheep were still useful for the country’s farming sector, one official said during the meeting.
The traders were using Myawadi, Mae Sot, Tachileik borders to send the live animals, according to a spokesperson of the breeding association. “I went to illegal cattle markets in Thailand and saw about 4,000 cattle.”
He suggested making the export legal, which, he said, would earn the government revenue.
China has banned import of meat products from Myanmar. Illegal trade of live cattle still continues.
