Sale of six noodle brands suspended

The Philippines said yesterday that the import ban on six South Korean noodle products would remain in place until government tests show that they are safe for public consumption.

Depart of Health secretary Enrique Ona said the department was conducting tests on samples of the six noodle brands – NongshimNeoguri Mild, Nong Shim Big Bowl Noodle Shrimp, Nong Shim SaengSaengUdon Bowl Noodles, Nong Shim SaengSaenUdon, Nong Shim Neoguri Hot and Nong Shim Neoguri Hot Multi.
The government earlier banned the sale of these products after they were found to contain benzopyrene, a know carcinogen.
“We are still examining the samples and we will wait for the results about their [benzopyrene] levels before we decide what action to take,” Ona said.
