Four killed in Yangon oil-tanker blast

At least four people were killed and another four injured on Monday evening when the oil tanker they were on exploded and sank in the Hlaing River near Yangon, officials said.

"We found four bodies so far and the search is still under way,” said Myo Aung, a senior police officer investigating the case. “The cause remains unclear, but the blast happened when the tanker was docking at a jetty to transfer oil to another tanker," he said.
Yangon Region Border Affairs Minister Colonel Tin Win told Eleven Media Group today that the case is now under investigation and upcoming findings about it will be submitted to the region minister.
Thin Htay Shwe, an official from Fire Service Department, said more than 40 firefighting vehicles were used to put out the fire. “Almost all the firefighting vehicles from the entire Yangon Region were deployed to put out the fire,” Thin Htay Shwe said.
A firefighter said it took half an hour to put out the fire.
The fire destroyed three other boats, a wooden jetty and logs on a jetty nearby.
The ship was owned by Myawaddy Trading Co. It was docked at a jetty owned by military-controlled Myanmar Economic Holdings when the blast occurred.
