Peace-making panel travels to Europe, US to observe peace activities

Union Peace Making Committee members are observing peace activities in Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Ireland and the United States, Aung Naing Oo from the Myanmar Peace Centre told Eleven Media Group last week.

The 11-member delegation comprises the vice chairman of the Union Peace Making Committee who is also Union Minister Aung Min, Union Ministers Khin Yi and Win Tun, Deputy Attorney-General Tun Tun Oo and members of the Myanmar Peace Centre.
Naing Oo also said they went to EU countries before the Thingyan Water Festival. While visiting in the EU, they would explain Myanmar’s peace activities and observe the nature of the EU’s peace process. The trips will take about two weeks.
They will meet expert groups interested in Myanmar’s political affairs and discuss with them. Although they had been invited for a long time, they couldn’t go to the EU because they had no time and were very busy there. Now, they can’t take a rest during the Thingyan Water Festival.
Thanks to the results of their observation of the EU countries, they can experience good advantages while carrying out peace matters. Though they couldn’t make a direct copy of other experiences, they can observe the peace activities and also study how to overcome difficulties in facing conflicts.
This month, ethnic armed groups representing the United Nationalities Federal Council visited Japan where they met with officials including the prime minister and discussed those matters on peace activities.
The Myanmar government is likely to hold discussions with the Kachin Independence Organisation at the end of this month and the delegates from the US, UK, United Nations and EU may participate in the discussion, according to reports.
