The Telenor Group is a Norwegian multinational telecommunications company headquartered at Fornebu in Norway and founded in 1855.
It is one of the world’s largest mobile telecommunications companies with operations in Scandinavia, Eastern Europe and Asia.
Telenor was one of 11 finalists in the international bidding for two lucrative concessions to build a nationwide mobile telecom network. It was granted the licence on June 27 and says it will begin recruiting staff and technical experts in the near future.
The company is now operating a full range of telecommunication services in Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Serbia, Ukraine, Hungary, Montenegro, Thailand, Malaysia, Bangladesh, India and Pakistan.
Its major services are Internet broadband, mobile telecommunications, Internet TV, IPTV and other operations such as fixed-line and mobile phones, IT services and digital television.
Telenor will use HSPA (High Speed Packet Access) and LTE-Ready (Long Term Evolution) technology for Myanmar to match the sophistication of leading networks around the world today. The company plans to achieve nationwide coverage in Myanmar within five years, providing the full range of mobile services.
