The consumption of wine in Indonesia has been rising by 25 per cent annually over the past five years, according to the United States Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service.
This figure has been attributed to the rapid expansion of four- and five-star hotels as well as the growth in upscale restaurants and bars.
Renowned culinary expert William Wongso, former president of Jakarta International Food and Wine Society, said some Indonesians were willing to spend more than 20 million rupiah (Bt62,350) for a litre of high-end French wine.
