However, data released at the end of June 2013 shows that actual Thai investment in Myanmar was just over $2.8 billion. That figure was reached only after $410 million was added during the period from April to June 2013.
In terms of actual investment, Thailand holds fourth place.
China is on the top of the list of actual foreign investment with over $14 billion, while Hong Kong stands second as it has invested over $6.3 billion for two consecutive years, surpassing Thailand and South Korea.
South Korea stands third on the list with investment of nearly $3 billion while Thailand stands fourth.
According to the Foreign Investment Law, Myanmar had approved 32 countries to invest nearly $43 billion as of the end of June 2013. But the actual amount is different because some investors withdrew their money.
Actual investment is nearly $33 billion and the gap between actual investment and investment approved by the government is $10 million. Thailand alone has a $7 million gap between actual and approved investment.
