Foreign OK not needed: P Penh

The opening of the 5th legislature of the Cambodian parliament was held in accordance with the Constitution and its laws, and foreign intervention is not needed, said a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation yest

The statement came after the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party of Sam Rainsy boycotted the new parliamentary session after accusing Prime Minister Hun Sen’s Cambodian People’s Party of rigging July’s election.
“We do not need at all the endorsement by any foreign envoy on the outcomes of the general elections on 28 July 2013 and the functioning of the National Assembly,” the ministry statement said.
“Moreover, the Cambodian political party does not need any endorsement from foreign diplomatic mission because it already has the support of its people,” the statement added.
Cambodia is not a “ banana republic” and can never “accept the arrogant behaviour of [an] ambassador from any foreign diplomatic mission, whatever the country he represents”.
Addressing alleged poll irregularities, the statement claimed they had been “completely dealt with by the competent institution of Cambodia, the National Election Committee and the Constitutional Council, in accordance with the Cambodian laws”.
