Three suspects held in connection with bombings at Traders Hotel and Western Park Ruby Restaurant in Yangon have confessed that they committed the crimes “for money”, police said yesterday.
Police detained the suspects for questioning on Tuesday. The suspects admitted to their crimes the same day, according to Police Lt-Col Win Kyi, chief of Yangon Region’s Western District Police Force.
Saw Myint Lwin, 27, from Phapun Township, Mon State, was arrested on his motorbike on Bilin-Phapun Road. The other two suspects – Aung Moe and Aung San Lin – were caught in Tharkayta and Thanhlyn Townships, Yangon Region, respectively, the police said.
“On the day of their capture, the suspects admitted [to committing the bombings].
The reason they committed the crime was related to monetary affairs, according to our inquiry. Our investigation is ongoing,” said Police Lt-Col Win Kyi, deputy chief of Mon State Police Force.
Several bombings have occurred in Yangon Region since last week.
