Homeless people, residents brawl in Yangon suburban

Hundreds of people clashed in a village, Hlaing Thar Yar Township at about 1am on Saturday, when more than 300 residents tried to stop about 100 homeless people from setting up tents, police say.

The homeless allegedly disturbed passers-by and threatened to set the village on fire, exacerbating the situation, according to local residents.
Ba Kyaw, one of the homeless, rejected this, saying the group was not trying to intrude on local residents’ land but on the land of “the cronies” – a term referring to businessmen who take advantage of their close ties with military leaders.
