A team led by the KNU chief will comprise more than 10 members, including General Secretary Padoh Saw Kwe Htoo Win, Defence in-charge Maj-General Saw Roger Khin, CEC Member Padoh Saw Ta Doh Moo, and Quarter-Master General Saw Ai Zet.
“The KNU delegation members are to meet the president and the commander-in-chief. Ceasefire and political dialogue will be on the agenda during the meeting,” Secretary-2 Padoh Mahn Mahn Mahn said, adding that the main issue is that troops from both sides are abiding by the ceasefire.
A successful meeting with the president and the commander-in-chief would make a difference to some extent at the upcoming conference of ethnic armed organisations, to be held in KNU-controlled area, said the Secretary-2.
On Saturday the KNU chief met with Aung Min, vice-chairperson of the Union Peacemaking Work Committee, and officials from the Myanmar Peace Centre (MPC).
Reached for comment, MPC spokesperson Hla Maung Shwe said there was no plan to meet that day but he could not confirm details.
“It was impossible to meet with Aung Min. It would be better to ask the KNU side. They were [acting as] a middleman. They have nothing official to report so far,” said Hla Maung Shwe.
