Indonesian ex-energy chief jailed for seven years

An Indonesian court yesterday sentenced a former head of the country's energy regulatory body to seven years in jail for corruption.

The anti-corruption court in Jakarta found Rudi Rubiandini guilty of accepting kickbacks amounting to US$1.5 million (Bt48.3 million) from local and foreign oil companies.
Rubiandini was arrested in August in a raid on his house, during which investigators seized more than $400,000 from him.
Rubiandini, who is the latest of a series of high-ranking officials to have been embroiled in a corruption case, said he accepted the verdict.
