Health warnings including photos will be placed on all cigarette packages and tobacco products within a year, according to a directive of the Ministry of Health.
The details of the warnings will be sent to local producers and they will be given one year to adhere to the new regulations, the ministry said.
Dr Than Sein, chairperson of the Public Health Foundation, said that his foundation did not know the details of the directive because it was only recently issued. After cigarette producers are informed about the details they will be made public, he added.
Health warnings on cigarette packages are restricted to the phrase “Smoking seriously damages your health”.
