Laos okays six decrees proposed by PM

The Laos government has approved six prime ministerial decrees and discussed important issues in order to boost growth and enhance social order and security.

The approval was issued at a monthly government meeting in July, which was chaired by Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong.
The decrees included a drafted Prime Ministerial Decree on management of information through the Internet. In this decree, the cabinet entrusted relevant sectors to take action to inspect and address websites that tarnish the image of the region and undermine security.
The meeting also approved a drafted presidential ordinance on granting honourable citizenship to foreigners.
A draft on immediate inspection of state investment projects in order to ensure proper implementation was also approved.
The two decrees will provide references in establishing associations and foundations as well as their operations.
The meeting also approved a drafted decree on art performance.
The members of the cabinet discussed amendments to a draft policy on sustainable hydroelectric development in Laos, while also discussing Laos’ draft vision for the integration into the Asean Economic Community in 2015.
At the meeting, the PM instructed the cabinet to pay more attention to maintaining social order and security, while addressing social problems.
Ministries in charge of economic affairs were asked to carry out formulated measures to ensure economic stability.
The premier told the relevant sectors to work harder in collecting revenue to meet the annual target. He also instructed the flood-and-drought management committee, especially at the provincial and district levels, to follow up on weather forecasts and be ready to deal with possible flooding.
Officials were also told to repair damaged roads in order to ensure convenient transportation of goods and daily commuting. The PM also told officials to set up measures to prevent weather-related illnesses.
He asked the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism to formulate a guide to organise festivals, rituals, weddings and other events to ensure they are not a waste of money and are in accordance with culture. He told relevant sectors to respond to issues raised by the public through the National Assembly's ordinary session hotline.
