6.8 earthquake hits Japan's Nagano Saturday, injuring 39

A powerful earthquake hit northern Nagano Prefecture on Saturday evening, injuring 39 people, seven seriously, the National Police Agency said.

The tremor occurred at 10:08pm, measuring lower 6 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.
The focus of the earthquake was about 10 kilometers below northern Nagano Prefecture, the agency said.
Following the earthquake, 14 evacuation centers opened in three villages, Hakuba, Otari and Ogawa, in the prefecture.
