Lim Yong Nam has been held in Batam, Indonesia, for over 50 days. He was arrested at the Batam Centre ferry terminal in October when he travelled there for a trade exhibition. It was then that he found out that he was on an Interpol list, the Straits Times reported.
His wife, May Lim, told paper that she had already spent all her savings on legal costs and is now selling her flat to raise more money.
The US is accusing Lim of acquiring 6,000 radio frequency modules for export to Iran. Their request to Singapore for his extradition in 2011 was denied as the High Court found that what he was accused of was not an offence in Singapore.
Though there is no extradition treaty between the two countries, the US attorney-general filed a request in October for Lim to be extradited from Indonesia. The Straits Times reported that Lim's lawyer has written to Indonesian President Joko Widodo, to appeal for his deportation to Singapore.
