MDCF stages protest at Insein Prison

Members of the Movement for Democracy Current Force (MDCF) on February 26 staged a protest in front of Yangon's Correctional Department demanding the release of all political prisoners and people imprisoned under unfair judgements.

“I am not protesting to release Activist Htin Kyaw only, but also for other political prisoners who are being detained under a mismanaged system," said Than Than Maw, the wife of Htin Kyaw.
Htin Kyaw, the leader of MDCF, is being detained for anti-government activities.
Aye Myint, Insien Township’s administrator, asked the protesters to vacate the area, saying: “It is a right to gather for peaceful demonstration. But permission is needed for this demonstration; you [protesters] don't have any permission. You must follow the rules and regulations.”
The protest was staged by 10 members of MDCF and two members of Generation Youth. The MDCF confirmed that they informed authorities about their plans to stage the protest before it began.
