Nepal's Constituent Assembly members to donate one-month salary

Nepal's Constituent Assembly chairman Subhas Nembang on Monday has directed all the CA members to donate an amount equivalent to their one month's salary for the relief of Saturday earthquake victims.

The decision was made during an all-party meeting held in Singha Durbar. Rastriya Samachar Samiti reported that all lawmakers in the current CA are to oblige with the chairman's directive.
Calculating the salaries of all the lawmakers/parliamentarians including those of leaders of opposition parties and chairpersons of different constitutional committees, the total sum will amount to 25.82 million rupees (US$254,074).
Meanwhile, leaders of various political parties represented in the CA have expressed dissatisfaction on the government's response in the aftermath of the earthquake.
They have demanded that all the governmental and non-governmental agencies be mobilised for recue operations, relief distribution and rehabilitation.
People have been forced to stay out on streets and on open grounds due to fear of aftershocks.
Lawmakers have also asked the government do its part in quelling panic-inducing rumours being circulated among the public regarding the earthquake.
