Brunei backs Laos' Asean chair preparations

The government of Brunei Darussalam has provided financial support to the Lao government as a contribution to the country's work as the Chair of Asean this year.

On behalf of his government, the Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to Laos Mr Haji Emran Bahar yesterday handed US$300,000 to Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Saleumxay Kommasith at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Vientiane.
 
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Saleumxay said Laos and Brunei Darussalam shared a longstanding relationship and diplomatic ties within the Asean bloc.
 
“This financial support from the government of Brunei Darussalam will enable the Lao government to better prepare for the Asean chairmanship, especially in the area of logistics,” he said.
 
Mr Saleumxay, who is in charge of the pr eparation sub-committee for Laos' Asean chairmanship, wished the outgoing Ambassador a safe trip home after his three-year mission in Laos.
 
The ceremony was also attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Brunei Darussalam.
