Hallmons said that the firm spent 70 per cent of its investment on building infrastructure and power supply.
According to Hallmons, the firm’s target customers are Internet service providers, content services, three licensed telecom operators (MPT, Telenor, and Ooredoo) and other telcos including Singtel.
“We are on the right track … Myanmar is now open for business,” he said.
Hallmons stressed the importance of communication. He considers educating the people as a potential issue for the firm, as it usually takes a long time. Yet, he is optimistic about the market, thanks to the success of Myanmar’s telecom sector reforms.
“Now everyone has access to affordable mobile communications. Being able to offer 4G in such a short time after launch is not only a credit to all the operators but also a testament to how data and information hungry the Myanmar people are,” he said.
“People are consuming data at rates higher than neighbouring countries and at levels even comparable to developed nations in the West. This is something that I believe is truly unique to Myanmar, and that has not been achieved anywhere else in the world.
“Now that the majority of the country has effective communications, Myanmar has hit a critical point in its telecommunications evolution. It is time to look at what other services will empower businesses and ensure support for the influx of foreign investment.” Kyaw Naing, the firm’s chief technical officer, said that its services are now available for professional web services, small and medium-sized enterprises and international investors.
“These days we are storing our data and documents with so many thumb drives and external drives. Now cloud computing is locally available and you can get access to your information from anywhere you are,” he said.
According to Kyaw Naing, the firm has partnered with China’s Huawei for technical assistance. It now has a data centre in East Dagon township in Yangon and already laid fibre optics in Yangon and will be rolling out in Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw next year.
As part of its corporate social responsibility initiatives, the firm has committed to donating free fibre optic and cloud access solutions for Yangon University library and Yankin Children Hospital.
