Are Thai kids too inspired?

Film studio GTH has a great track record at making movies for teenagers, given "Fan Chan", "Seasons Change" and "Hormones".

Let's see how they do with the upcoming "Top Secret Wairun Pan Laan".

It's about the young man who came up with the popular seaweed snack Tao Kae Noi.

It's directed by Songyos Sukmakanan and stars Patchara "Peach" chirathivath, who was a big hit in the rock 'n' roll comedy "SuckSeed".

Peach, whose family runs the Central Group, is playing youthful entrepreneur Aithipat "Top" Kulapongvainh. They're both rich, so it should be good casting.

Songyos says producer Jira Malikool "thinks we've done a lot of movies that have inspired young people, but most of them were about sports or music, so this is a new approach".

It's still, of course, about inspiring kids to pursue a pastime they believe in.

More than a billion packets of Tao Kae Noi were sold, making Top wealthy while still in his mid-20s, and, says Songyos, "It was all to do with his attitude and thinking outside the box."

His story reminds Peach of his own great-grandfather, Tiang Jirathivat, who opened the original Central mall. "He struggled to become successful, too, and also Top's relationship with his father matches my real-life experience."

"Top Secret Wairun Pan Laan" will be in the theatres on October 20.

More soup?

Production has only just begun on "Tom Yum Goong 2", months after the project was announced.

Prachya Pinkaew returns to direct Thattchakorn "Tony Jaa" Yeerum again. Presumably the lure of a hungry box office has smoothed over the animosity that arose between them after Tony wanted to direct himself in "Ong Bak 2".

"TYG 2" will be in 3D, naturally, and pool action superstars Jaa, Choopong "Deaw" Changprung and Yanin "Jeeja" Vismitinanda.

All we've heard about the story so far is that some foreign bad guys need sorting out, among them Kazu Tang and the American martial artist Marrese Crump.

If that sounds a little repetitive, Prachya says it's not, so shut up.
