Yanni was bestowed the honour of adopting a panda at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, southwest China. The privilege is reserved almost exclusively for countries, however the research base honoured the Greek musician because of the “inspiration and harmony that derives from his music.” The threemonth old female panda is the offspring of Mao Mao, model for the official mascot of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
“I accept this gift and this honour with great humility and a profound sense of responsibility towards the country of China,” said Yanni, after bestowing the name Santorini on his adopted panda.
The singer’s tour of China included five triumphant concerts in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chengdu, performing for more than 50,000 enraptured fans. His Bangkok concert is being staged at Impact Arena, Muang Thong Thani. Tickets are available at all Thaiticketmajor outlets, at www.thaiticketmajor.com or by calling 02 262 3838.
