Keng switched to teaching, in the sense of grooming the next generation of directors at the GTH studio, and was evidently pretty good at his job. His proteges have come up with blockbusters like “See Phrang”, “Bangkok Traffic Love Story” and “SuckSeed”.
Keng joked with friends that he’d been “red-carded” from directing, but it’s time to get him back in the game.
To help ensure fiscal success this time, GTH has teamed the 50-year-old veteran with two of those young upstarts for a seventh-anniversary trilogy. Paween “Golf” Purijitpanya (who made “Body”) is in his late 20s and Adisorn Trisirikasem (“Bangkok Traffic Love Story”) is thirtysomething.
The still-untitled project is also being billed as a love story, meaning that hopefully you’ll love it.
Stephff stuff
Nation editorial cartoonist Stephff (the paycheques go to “Stephane Peray”) marshalled his 4,000-plus fans on Facebook to raise Bt58,000 for flood relief.
They achieved that through the sale of T-shirts bearing his cartoon “The heart of Thai people is unsinkable” and an auction of some of his original art.
You can get one of the shirts at Nation headquarters in Bang Na for Bt200 – or make your own with a different Stephff cartoon. He’s fine with that as long as it’s for a good cause.
And there are more of his original cartoons for sale on Facebook for Bt500 to Bt1,500, depending on how careful he was with them. Even if the paper’s a little ripped, they’d still make great holiday gifts, assuming your loved ones have a sense of humour.
