Three students at King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Lat Krabang come up with innovative designs for Seagull

Three students from King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Lat Krabang, earned honours for their schools by picking up the top three prizes in the recent cooking-ware contest “Seagull Design Contest 2011”. Organised by Thai Stainless Steel, manufacturer of trendy cooking ware Seagull, the contest’s theme was “Good Memory Design” and provided an opportunity for students across the country to present their ideas for products that are both creative and practical.
The fifth edition of the competition, which also celebrated Seagull’s 40th anniversary, attracted more than 100 students from several universities and institutes.
Nicha Muangpraesee, a sophomore year student from the Faculty of Architecture Industrial, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Lat Krabang, won the top award with “Cocogo Squeezer”, a trendy coconut squeezer.
“The difficulties involved in squeezing coconut milk for Thai dishes has resulted in more and more people buying instant coconut milk and I don’t think the taste of the same,” Nicha said.
“I felt that with a coconut squeezer that is easy and convenient to use, clean, and maintains the original taste of coconut, cooking with fresh coconut milk will not be quite so difficult anymore. My Cocogo is simple and convenient and very practical to use”.
The first runner up, Chinnaklit Boonyapiwat, a senior student of the Faculty of Architecture Industrial, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Lat Krabang came up “Block Brand”, a three-layer cutting board, while second runner-up, Kanokpong Chucherd, a junior-year student from the Faculty of Architecture Industrial, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Lat Krabang, invented a “Rice Wrap”.
“In the past, Thai people preferred to use natural materials to wrap food, such as lotus leaves. My rice wrap comes with a USB connection that allows the user to plug it in and warm the food both in the car and in the office”.
The three winners thanks the organisers for providing the new generation with an opportunity for the new generation to present their idea outside the classroom.
“This is a great stepping stone in our designing career”.
