It looks like 2001 all over again

Ref: 'Action Sought on Shinawatra case', News, Saturday.

Suddenly it’s the deadline – that old bugbear of Thai privilege, the Statute of Limitations that washes all the really high linen of the land.
Yes, there’s just one month to go to conclude a case against the Prime Minister for having allegedly lied to the court to protect her brother in the landmark Shin Corp sale case. The Court concluded that Thaksin owned the Shin Corp shares all along, yet PM Yingluck freely and openly testified in court that he didn’t.
Then the Revenue Department concluded that the fake sellers, children, siblings, retainers, weren’t liable for the Bt16 billion in taxes and penalties owed either because they weren’t the true owners, which is more official confirmation that what PM Yingluck swore to in court was alleged perjury.
And many of the other related cases against the family are going to fall through the same crack as well. Just a month and they’re all home and dry.
And then the Constitution will be changed to wash whatever else remains dirty, and if that doesn’t quite do the job we’ll cry “Reconciliation!” – and out of love and compassion for the Thai people we’ll let them all off scot-free.
2001 all over again.
