A big yeah for the Yers
The Smallroom label's new band sweeps the nominations for the Season Awards
Music-industry observers will have their eyes firmly fixed on newcomers the Yers this year following the band’s surprise sweep of five nominations for Thailand’s longest-running music accolades, the Season Awards.
The new rock outfit from thje Smallroom label features Yosathorn “Aoo” Bunyatanapiwat on vocals, Thana “Tao” Kusum on keyboard and percussions, Thirarat “Boom” Pumuang on drums, Nithis “Boat” Warayanon on bass and Panit Monthakarntiwong on guitar. They’re nominated for Best New Artist, Album, Rock Group, Rock Album and Recording.
They made their debut with “Karn Suesarn”, the first song on the compilation album “Smallroom 007: Boutique” and the three cuts from their debut album “Y” – “Thesakaln”, “Rawang Khub Rot”, and “Khuen Thi Puad Rao” – are all popular spins.
Sony Music’s Slot Machine featuring sethapong “First” durongjirakan on vocals, Athirach Pinthong on bass, Jenwit Chanpanyawong on guitar and Setharat “Auto” Pangjanan on drums, picked up four nods for Best Duo or Group, Album, Song, Recording and Rock Song.
Slot Machine has recorded four albums, the latest being last year’s “Cell”. The band has won past Season Awards as well as honours from Music Express, Seed and Kom Chad Luek.
GMM Grammy’s Paradox were also nominated for Best Duo or Group, Album, Song and Recording while Potato got the nod for Best Rock Group, Rock Album, Producer and Recording.
Palmy and Thanida Thamwimol are nominated for three awards each, including Best Female Artist while Grammy’s Zeal and Spicy Disc’s Sqweez Animal have two nods apiece.
In the Best Rock category, the Yers will be going up against Dezember and Psycho Slim.
This year’s awards do not include the Best Instrumental nor Best Hip-Hop Artist categories.
The winners will be announced in the grand ballroom of the Town in Town Hotel on Monday night at 6.
