And of course they are right, due to English being the official language of Asean, so why is it becoming more and more difficult for experienced, native English speakers to continue teaching here? The TCT (Teachers Council of Thailand) have been making the requirements to start/continue teaching here harder every year and there is no sign of it letting up. I know several very good and experienced teachers who have had to leave Thailand recently due to them not meeting, or not being prepared to meet, TCT requirements. How is this benefiting Thai students? It is very sad that experienced teachers, many with families here, who have proven their ability to teach, are being forced to leave because, according to the TCT, they aren’t qualified enough. I think it is something the TCT will regret when the clock strikes midnight on December 31 2014.
