At the 8th OBECHonda 31Legged Race, launched by AP Honda, Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC), Sport Authority of Thailand and Athletic Association of Thailand, unity is definitely the key to success.
Carrying the slogan “Move together with determination to the goal”, the competition aims to encourage unity among Thai youngsters and lay strong foundations for life and career.
“Its popularity has spread rapidly since the race was first held in 2005. Almost 200,000 children from more than 3,600 teams around the country have participated in the competition,” said Suchart Arunsaengroj, AP Honda sales director.
The 31legged race originated in Japan in 1995 with the idea of teaching children the value of cooperation. It quickly became popular in other countries around the world.
“It’s a sport that requires a lot of training for. To get 30 people running together for 50 metres isn’t easy. If one member of the team falls, the rest won’t be able to continue. Other members need to help him to his feet before they can run again,” said Suchart.
Qualifying sessions will be held nationwide between November 3 and December 23. The thirty best teams join the national round in January.
Primary schools around the country can apply until September 15 at sportact.obec.go.th and www.aphonda.co.th/honda31legs. For more information, call (02) 883 8469 during office hours. For updates on the race, visit www.facebook.com/Honda31Legs.
