Japanese furniture and housewares brand Muji will showcase its ideas to save the world in the “Product Fitness 80” exhibition from October 9 to 22 in the Event Hall at Central Chidlom.
On display will be minimalist-style furniture and other products with designs that put the emphasis on recycling.
Highlights include a towel that can be put to further use than just drying things off – turn it into a bath mat or duster for example. There are also socks made of leftover thread, office supplies from unpainted aluminium and a do-it-yourself children’s chair made from recycled cardboard.
As a plus for the brand’s fans, designer Naoto Fukasawa will visit and talk about Muji’s design concepts.
What do farangs think?
The Bangkok Art and Culture Centre today hosts the discussion “Foreigners Look at Thai Art” as part of the “Thai Trends” art exhibition.
Panelists are internationally known museum director David Elliott, Bangkok-based British author of “Very Thai” Philip Cornwel-Smith and Bangkok-based designer Rolf Von Bueren of Lotus Arts de Vivre, whose work is part of “Thai Trends”. Prof Apinan Poshyananda, the show’s chief curator, will moderate.
Running through November 4, the exhibition features over 300 paintings, sculptures, installations, mixed-media works, photography and video art by around 200 prominent Thai artists as well as a dozen Thai-based foreign artists. Works are divided into nine themes that aim to capture the concept of “from localism to internationalism”.
The talk is from 5 to 7pm in English with Thai translation. Admission is free.

Very British, very Burberry
British luxury brand Burberry takes its inspiration from vintage luggage and the English countryside for women for its autumn-winter collection of bags for women.
The Orchard bags are accented by fine leather and oversized zips in shades of olive green, camel brown and jet black.
The design is embellished with hand-carved golden miniatures of countryside wildlife – the owl, duck and fox. The rest features the signature tartan quilted sewing pattern and two-toned suede stripes
See the collection for yourself at Burberry’s shops in Siam Paragon, Gaysorn and Central Chidlom.
