Immigration office in Chiang Mai is woeful

SUNDAY, APRIL 07, 2013

The immigration facilities in Chiang Mai are an absolute disgrace. Nowhere else in Thailand have I seen such a ridiculously small office in charge of a large city.

There are thousands of foreign tourists, workers and retirees living in Chiang Mai, but the immigration office has the size of a large living room only. This results in catastrophic overcrowding, a chaotic queuing system and about the longest wait for even the most simple tasks. With all the high-budget infrastructure projects planned everywhere in Thailand at the moment, can the authorities perhaps locate a tiny amount to help lift the Chiang Mai immigration office out of its misery?
