It’s shocking that more around 60 per cent of parents surveyed by Suan Dusit Poll disagree with the closure of small schools, despite this plan already being applied to over 3,000 schools in the past two decades.
I agree with this plan because I believe that it can improve the quality of students.
I would like the Ministry of Education to publicise study results about the merging of small schools over the past two decades. Although parents and students might face difficulties in travelling further, and in adapting to new schools, the ministry’s help and subsidies can solve these problems.
In addition, the ministry should undertake substantial public relations to show parents that students who were affected by the closure of small schools 20 years ago have developed greater competency compared to if they were in small schools of low quality.
This could create confidence among parents, ease their anxieties, and allow collaboration to improve the quality of education.
