Thai-Belgian pop singer Palmy will be back on stage at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Bitec) in Bangna next weekend and while she will, as usual, be kicking off her shoes, she’ll also be stripping down her usual pop-rock-reggae mix and replacing it with country-folk.
“I guess people are used to seeing me without shoes at my concerts and this time won’t be any different,” she says.
“I like to feel surfaces under my feet, whether it’s soil, grass, sand or the wood of the stage floor. It feels really wonderful but more importantly, it helps me to connect with the environment. It’s also the concept for the show.
The 32-year-old singer will perform a set that reflects her 12-year career with tracks of her debut outing, 2001’s “Palmy”, “Stay” from 2003, 2006’s “Beautiful Ride” and her latest “Palmy 5”, which came out in 2011. They will all be acoustic and sport new country and folk arrangements.
The song list includes such favourites as “Tick Tock”, “Ooh”, “Stay”, “Kwam Jeb Puad”, “Paed Mong Chao Wan Ang Kan”, “Ka Ka Ka”, “Khid Mark”, and “Yark Rong Dang Dang”.
“The theme of the concert is comfortable, relaxed and warm with country-folk style,” she says. “I’ve wanted to do a full-length acoustic concert for a long time but never had the chance. This is like a dream come true.”
Palmy is again working with internationally famous Thai artist Hugo, or Chalachak Chakrabongse, who is serving as the music director for this show.
“I’m delighted to be teaming up with Palmy once more and this is our first major event together. I would like to thank her for trusting me with this important role,” Hugo says.
The concert will also feature leading musicians from New York and a world-class sound engineer who’ll take charge of the overall of sound system.
Palmy, whose full name is Eve Pancharoen, has received several awards, many of them in the past couple of years. They include the You2play Award 2011, the 1st Decade Anniversary Award 2011 from Guitar Magazine, a Seed Award, a Siamdara Stars Awards 2012 and a Fat Award.
Part of the proceeds will go to Elephants World, a sanctuary for sick, old, disabled, abused, illegal and street elephants at Baan Nong Hoi in Kanchanaburi province.
