Earn the invitation to the ball
The Democrats can babble all they want about party reform or executive-committee restructuring (whatever that is) and it won't do any good.
Here’s why: Most Thais see Thaksin and the Pheu Thai Party collectively as Cinderella. They see the Constitutional Court and the Election Committee collectively as the cruel stepmother and the Democrats as the envious stepsisters. The court can disband Pheu Thai tomorrow and Thaksin’s supporters are going to say, “The old hag did it again!” And they will vow to vote for the Pheu Thaksin Party or Pheu Shinawatra or whatever the new name is. When the Democrats taunted Yingluck about rice and the first-car policy, her supporters got furious and sympathised more with poor “Cinderella”.
Thaksin’s supports look at the political scene and see Yingluck dishevelled, down on her hands and knees, scrubbing the floor with a toothbrush while the Democrats are laughing and calling her “stupid bitch”.
The Democrats must shake off the image of the envious stepsisters if they want to get back in the game.
