Sony MDR-10RC Premium Compact Headphones are a perfect match for any high-resolution audio player - like the Sony Walkman F886.

The 10RC uses 40mm drivers that plays hi-res, wideband audio, being capable of reproducing deep lows and euphoric highs from 5Hz to 40kHz. The big, dynamic neodymium drivers deliver really powerful bass while retaining music clarity.

The headphones are traveller-friendly with their compact size and weight (165 grams) and the way you can fold them up and remove the cord.

The 10RC phones look sleek with on-ear cushions and a smooth exterior finish in red, black or white ear cups. The red ones I tested looked really cool with the red at the back of the cups a nice contrast to black inner cushions and silver frames.

The 10RC phones are special because Sony teamed up with the Irish rock band the Script in the design. The Script, formed in 2001, has released three albums, all of which have hit No 1 on the Irish and UK charts and the second one reaching No 3 on the US Billboard 200. Popular TV shows like “Ghost Whisperer” and “The Vampire Diaries” feature some of their tunes.

The band ensured that the headphones would deliver a full range of sound, from crisp vocal highs through to body-shaking bass lines, while being stylish enough to wear in the studio or out.

With its lightweight and super-soft cushioned cans and wrap-around, adjustable headpiece, the 10 RC is very comfortable to wear. During my test I wore them for hours with no discomfort.

The sound was very good. You get 100dB sensitivity for exceptional reproduction of the tiny details in both mids and highs, and the bass booms thanks to those dynamic 40mm drives and sculpted air vents. The vents maximise airflow within the phones, allowing for a better response to bottom-end beats.

I tested the 10-RC with a Sony Walkman NWZ-F886 and hi-res audio files. The songs sounded great with acute detail in the instruments, especially the solid bass sound. I enjoyed myself for hours because of the clarity in the vocals and thunder of the drums and bass guitar. The headphones come with a carrying pouch, 1.2-metre cord, 1.2-metre inline remote, a microphone code, stereo mini-plug and stereo mini-AP-phone plug.
