Sony MDR-10R Noise Cancelling Headphones (10RNC) reproduce good-quality sound and are effective in reducing ambient noise to provide an immersive audio experience.
The 10RNC uses Sony’s Dual Noise Sensor Technology to reduce the noise around you. Dual microphones – Feedback and Feedforward – together with a digital noise-cancelling software engine minimise the external noise so you can enjoy optimal listening pleasure.
Best of all, the Automatic AI noise-cancelling circuitry of the 10RNC has been designed to analyse and automatically select the optimal noise cancellation for aircraft, train, bus or office because not all ambient noise is the same.
The noise-cancelling function is powered by just an AAA battery that can last up to 20 hours.
The 10RNC has very good sound quality because it uses 40mm driver units that provide a wideband audio performance range from 6Hz to an impressive 24,000Hz, so you can enjoy powerful lows and extended ultra-highs. And when the headphone is on, it has very high sensitivity of 101dB. And the 10RNC has a built-in S-Master equaliser and S-Master amplifier to amplify signals that may be lost by the noise-cancelling.
The 10RNC uses a liquid crystal polymer film diaphragm that is designed to balance rigidity and high levels of internal loss, resulting in minimal vibrations to ensure perfect balance, with the most accurate mid- to high-range sound reproduction.
The around-ear headphones are also comfortable for long use thanks to soft cushions both in the ear cups and on the headband. They’re quite light – 205 grams with the battery.
The package comes with a removable connecting cord, an inline remote and microphone cord for smartphones (iPhone and Android), a plug adapter for in-flight use and a carrying case.
I enjoyed testing the 10RNC for hours as it was really comfortable to wear.
I found that its noise-cancelling function was very effective. When I tested it by listening to music while riding a non-air-conditioned bus, I could hear the strong wind that hit the headphones but other ambient sounds were minimised so I could enjoy the music on the bus.
When I tested the noise-cancelling function in my living room with the TV volume was turned very high, I found that the 10RNC gave me an truly immersive music experience without interference from the TV.
And when I tested it in the Nation newsroom, which is normally noisy with news discussion and TV sets for news monitoring, the headphones eliminated the ambient noise effectively.
And if the battery runs out, you can also use the headphones without the noise-cancelling function.
I found that the headphones reproduced very powerful bass while retaining music clarity. Good details of musical instrument and the vocal sound were also outstanding. I enjoyed using it to listen to rock music as well as progressive songs of King Floyd, for example.
Sony MDR-10RNC retails for Bt7,990.
