With a slim profile and weighing just 420g, the Lenovo ThinkPad 8 is a new tablet computer designed for professionals in a hurry.
It is powered by Intel Atom Z3770 running at 1.46 GHz, has 2 gigabytes DDR3 working memory or RAM and is equipped with 64GB eMMC integrated storage. The graphics horsepower comes from Intel HD Graphics, which boasts full hardware acceleration, capable of playing Full HD video.
The bright screen with its 8.3-inch Full HD display is clear and easy-to-read with 1920x1200 (16:10)-pixel resolution that makes it ideal for viewing video clips and photos as well as reading web pages. And the display, which supports 10-finger multi-touch, is protected by Asahi Dragontrail glass complete with an anti-smudge coating.
Business users will be happy that ThinkPad 8, which runs on Windows 8.1, comes with a full version of Office Home & Student 2013, allowing them to work in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote.
It also has such enterprise-ready security features as TPM (Trusted Platform Module) 2.0, Mobile Device Management, Workplace Join, and an auto-triggered VPN function when the user selects an app or function requiring access to corporate data.
ThinkPad 8 is only 8.8mm thin and since the Intel Atom uses little power, the battery can last up to eight hours.
The tablet comes with a USB 3.0 port so you can transfer files between the tablet and PC very fast. For wireless connectivity, it has 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 functions.
Its 8-megapixel rear camera and 2-MP front camera are capable of shooting 1080p-video. And the tablet has a micro HDMI-out port for playing video to a HD TV or an external monitor.
ThinkPad 8 allows you to easily share content wirelessly across multiple devices with Lenovo QuickCast 2.0. And you can also stream presentations or HD video without cables with Lenovo QuickDisplay 2.0.
With its aluminium chassis, ThinkPad 8 feels sturdy and I found the touch screen very responsive and fast when scrolling web pages. Office 2013 applications, such as Word and Excel, ran fast and smooth. It started up and shut down in an instant.
Lenovo ThinkPad 8 has a suggested retail price of Bt19,900.
