The citizens of Phetchabun on the Pa Sak River are to be encouraged to take care of their precious water resource next week when a consortium takes its conservation project on the road for a second straight year. TV stars will be on hand to help spread the word.
Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production, the Institute of Sufficiency Economy, the Agri-Nature Foundation and JSL Global Media are presenting “The Power of Human Energy: A Journey Inspired by the King” in the province from July 19 to 27.
Phetchabun is the source of the Pa Sak, which then runs through eastern Lopburi and Saraburi before joining the Lopburi River and finally the Chao Phraya River in southeast Ayutthaya.
“We are delighted with the mindfulness of the Agri-Nature Foundation in adopting the King’s philosophy of sufficiency economy as the solution,” says Chevron Thailand president Pairoj Kaweeyanun.
“This is a solution that’s easy to understand and to practise and, most importantly, it’s beneficial to farmers, allowing them a wider choice of crops and thus bringing them more income. It gives agriculturists a better quality of life and preserves the natural environment.”
Pairoj says the project drew “very positive feedback” last year from both the citizens and the government, as well as private firms.
This year’s effort will cover a 320-kilometre trail from old Srithep to Ban Hin Ngon in Lom Kao district. “We will emphasise successful examples of restoration in the Pa Sak Basin,” says Dr Wiwat Salyakamthorn, president of the Agri-Nature Foundation’s Institute of Sufficiency Economy. “Thanks to our success last year, we believe this project can be completed in nine years.”
“We always present things that can benefit the viewers of our TV show ‘Joh Jai’ and highlight solutions to society’s problems,” says Ratiwan Srimongkolkul, president of JSL Global Media. “This year we’re taking along our actors, such as Kemmanij ‘Pancake’ Jamikorn, Siwat ‘Cee’ Chotichaicharin, Pisanu ‘Boy’ Nimsakul and Jirayu ‘Kao’ La-Ongmanee.”
A safer future
