Satellite channel GMM Z celebrates the Tour de France with a bicycle race

GMM Z, one of Thailand’s leading pay TV operators, is once again providing its own kind of support to the 101st edition of the 2014 Tour de France by organising a second edition of its “Road to Tour de France Thailand” event.
The road race will take place over a 100-kilometre distance in Nakhon Nayok on July 27, the day the world-famous cycling race comes to an end at the Avenue des Champs Elysees in Paris.
“The path travels through unspoilt nature and is surrounded by the hills between the provinces of Nakhon Nayok and Prachin Buri, making it challenging in parts. Participants will enjoy the sprint stage in front of the Kundarn Prakarnchol Dam, the two-kilometre mountain stage with a 4 per cent slope, and the time trial section over six kilometers,” says Watcharin “Oe” Lertbanjong, who designed the race.
The cyclist to come in first in the sprint stage will receive two green jerseys from Z Pay TV and Le Tour de France. The winner of the mountain stage takes home two Polka-Dot jerseys while the 10 cyclists achieving the highest score in the time trial get two yellow jerseys.
“The event was a great success last year,” says GMM Z's chief operations officer Dew Woratangtrakul, adding that he expects the 2014 activity to go one better.
More than 300 cyclists are expected to take part in this second cycling race modelled on the Tour de France.
