His original date scuttled by the coup in May, French spinner DJ Falcon is finally able to return to Bangkok to perform at Ku De Ta, part of a seemingly never-ending globetrotting tour.
Kicking off this time in Europe and making his way here via the Coachella Musical Festival in California, Falcon will perform at Ku De Ta before continuing on to Shanghai. Then it’s back to Spain via Istanbul!
Falcon’s real name is Stephane Queme and his chief calling is photography, but he’s related to Alan Braxe of Stardust and Vulture fame and to Delphine Queme of Bureau Records, so it’s only natural that he wanted to get people’s toes tapping too. He’s drawn inspiration from electro, old school, house classics, indie dance and new rave to goose remixes for Phoenix and Cassius of La Mouche, plus many more.
For 10 years he’s been touring the world, playing alongside the Chemical Brothers in South America, Daft Punk on their Alive Tour, and with his friends from Ed Banger and Kitsune.
Camera, surfboard and bag of records in tow, Falcon has visited just about every place on the planet. He’s played at almost every prestigious club you can imagine, from Pacha, Ibiza and Fabric in London to the Rex in Paris, Cocoon in Frankfurt and the Womb in Tokyo, and he has several times toured Australia and the US.
DJ Falcon is also the man behind hits like “So Much Love to Give” and “Together”, co-produced with Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter. In 1999 his first EP, “Hello My Name is DJ Falcon”, came out on the French label Roule. He took a break to take some pictures, and then last year showed up on Daft Punk’s album “Random Access Memories” (on the final track “Contact”).
“I’m really fortunate, because everything I’ve done in my life has been something I’ve been passionate about, and I need to feel that passion,” he told Time Out magazine earlier this year.
“I just didn’t feel comfortable anymore with electronic music. I needed to be sincere, and that wasn’t the case at that time. I didn’t want to force myself into something. It’s only in the last three years I’ve started doing music again and got super-excited about it again. And that’s why I did ‘Contact’.
“It’s pretty special because it’s a demo we did 10 years ago, around the time we did ‘So Much Love to Give’, when I was still making music with Thomas. We had some demos we never used. When I started making music again I thought, ‘This track is pretty good!’ I talked to Thomas and I was, like, ‘What’s up with this track? We should do something, or I’ll do it myself.’ So Thomas talked to Guy-Manuel about it, and they started to think about including it on the album.”
“Random Access Memories” won Grammy Awards this year as Album of the Year, Best Dance/Electronica Album and Best Engineered Album (non-classical) and the hit single “Get Lucky” was named Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
